Fabrice Larochette is on His Way to Stardom

Up, Up, and Away!!

Yes, with each vintage Fabrice Larochette's reputation as a vigneron grows and currently he approaches new-born stardom. Additionally with each passing year Pouilly Fuisse and Macon gain greater recognition. Clearly vineyards like robes in the hands of a Fabrice Larochette yield Premier Cru caliber wines. Currently the only wines in the famous Hospice de Beaune auction that aren't from the vineyards of the Cote D'Or, are Pouilly Fuisse.

Without a doubt the wines VDLT offers made by Larochette are better than reasonably priced. They are practically a gift. His Pouilly Fuisse Noly 2008 is part of the 3-pack titled Silver R1 $98 and the Macon Chaintre 2009 is part of the 3-pack Silver R2 $98. These kits come with "DREAMS" attached. In addition to delicious reasonable wines each of these kits gives the buyer two chances to win a "DREAM TRIP" to Burgundy.

So folks, it is pretty clear that you should reach for your wallet, pull out your credit card and buy either or both of these kits with dreams. If you think we are pushing hard you are right. The wines are great, the contest is great and we want you to be part of it.

Burgundy Awaits You

Dubreuil-Fontaine

October 2, 2012

Dear Tom,

Glad to hear you purchased two kits making you eligible to win the "Dream Trip" to Burgundy. Furthermore, I was glad to see that both kits included a wine from Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine. Just think with a little luck, you and Janet might early next year, taste those wines' siblings of 2012 from barrels at Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine.

However, if per chance you don't win the "Dream Trip", there are some wonderful other prizes. When we are in New York our favorite after-dinner spot is the Brandy Library. Flavien Desoblin and his team are fabulous hosts and their cognac and other rare spirits are treasures. Consequently, his contributing as a raffle prize (click here) two glasses of Pierre Ferrand "Selection des Anges" or Glenmorangie 18 year-old Single Malt Scotch greatly enhances the excitement of this contest.

Dinner at the Chief's is always spectacular because he serves the absolute finest fish, cheese and meat. Miraculously, he has convinced his purveyors to contribute to the "Dream Trip" Contest. In France, fine cheese can be found in every town, however, (click here) in all of France maybe we have three cheese stores that are comparable to Ideal Cheese. Michael Binetti, the owner of Ideal Cheese is contributing one of his gourmet cheese gift baskets as a prize. (Click here) Schatzie's the Butcher's steaks put to shame any beef we have eaten anywhere. Tony is contributing a triple concerto (Rib, T-Bone & Strip) of 2 inch aged beauties as another prize. Have you ever tasted a Halibut Fillet from Dorian's Seafood and Fish Market? We had one with a bottle of our 2008 Pernand-Vergelesses "Clos Berthet" Monopole 1er Cru. I don't have to close my eyes to recapture the spectacular flavor and texture of this fish. Dorian also is making a special contribution. (Click here) She offers her very special shellfish picnic platter for four.

Tom, writing this letter makes me want to enter the contest just for the food prizes. In fact, we are going to make it a plan. (Click here) we shall buy kits as X-Mas gifts for several of our friends in America. We know the wine they will receive is wonderful and additionally they will have the excitement of hoping to be winners of one of these wonderful prizes. You know Tom, I don't know if Madina told you but everyone has an excellent chance of winning a prize as there will be a maximum 450 kits sold.

See you soon hopefully in Burgundy,
Christine

Thomas Jefferson meets Philippe Drouhin

Philippe Drouhin-Laroze Cellars

Thomas Jefferson Only Wines

Christine and I (Philippe Drouhin-Laroze) love visiting America because anything is possible from coast to coast, from sea to shining sea. Art; sports; theatre; music; shopping; national parks; museums; and people from all the cultures of the world.

However when the winner of VDLTWINE's "dream trip" comes to visit Domaine Drouhin-Laroze, Christine and I will treat them to the 8th wonder of the world. A wine bar that will humble any wine bar in New York, Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles, etc, etc. If Thomas Jefferson bought a VDLT three-pack and won the "dream trip"  after attending our wine bar, he wouldn't have returned to America to become your third President.

The happy "dream trip" winner will taste Chambertin Clos de Beze just before Musigny. However before the Chambertin, he will have tasted Latricieres-Chambertin, Bonnes Mares, Clos de Vougeot, Chapelle-Chambertin, etc, etc (etc. includes several of Gevrey-Chambertin's finest premier cru wines).

Oh!! Forgot to mention there aren't bottles at our wine bar – we will taste these wines from the barrel. For a wine lover, this tasting experience is equivalent to a football fan watching the Super Bowl with the owners of his favorite team. After the tasting, Christine will treat us to one of her wonderful lunches and we will talk about the wines we have tasted.

It has been great talking, but now it is time for you to buy lots of three pack kits so we can continue our talk in person.

OUR FINEST HOUR!

The Drouhin-Laroze Grand Cru and Premier Cru feast was overwhelming. These wines normally reserved for well-heeled connoisseurs were freely flowing in a multitude of vintages. Philippe and Christine's presence made the evening magical for both the expert and novice. They are a warm and industrious couple, filled with pride and passion and are eager to educate. The evening was a triumph. It typified everything we want for VDLT.

During the course of the evening we realized how important it is for everyone to experience these great wines. In an effort to accomplish this, we offer these wines at virtually wholesale prices. Please contact Madina at 855-SIP-VDLT. She will make sure that you have an opportunity to experience some or all of these wines.

We were delighted that so many of you were able to meet Philippe and Christine and taste their wines. We were gratified by the attendees' aggressive wine purchases.

However we still have a limited supply of virtually all of the wines at the tasting.

Anthony Quinn Enters with Horse

Sharing is Living

Bruno Falzoni, a handsome virile man entered our home and life carrying a magnificent sculpture of a horse. This charismatic man bore a strong resemblance to the aforementioned Anthony Quinn. This wonderful horse majestically occupies the focal point on the table where we decant our wines reminding me of this special man. Bruno's son, Allesandro is a terrific fellow that I truly enjoy and don't see often enough although he and his beautiful wife, Natasha often pass through New York.

Wine is for sharing!! Just prior to Christmas, Allesandro called to ask if vdltwine.com could send him and a few friends the terrific wine that he enjoys drinking at the Chief's. The next day we shipped wine to Colorado, California, and Florida. For me it is such fun talking to Alessandro about wine that I often pretend I am talking to him when I write these emails.

Today Alessandro, I want you to relax between business time and family time and study Domaine Marchand-Grillot. Read the info on the website and then watch Raphael's videos of each wine and you will understand why I want you to buy the 4pack offered below.

$47 Gevrey-Chambertin En Songe 2008 (a Truly Enchanting Wine)
$61 Gevrey-Chambertin Champerrier, Vigne Centenaire 2008 (100 Year Old Vines)
$63 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru la Perrière 2008 (Incredibly Elegant)
$131 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2008 (Spectacular Wine)
$301 Total

We offer 4 wines as a 4 pack with one of each.

The Best Things In Life Are Free

THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE

But unfortunately, everything we enjoy costs money and good wine is no exception. Raphael (“Houdini”) Gimenez-Fauvety has uncovered for us a wonderful winemaker whose wine relative to its brilliance costs close to the same price as the moon and the stars.

$23 Vacqueyras 2004       $16 Cotes du Rhone 2004

Frederic Chastan of Domaine de la Jaufrette in Chateauneuf-du-Pape makes several fine wines – two of which are outstanding: Cotes du Rhone 2004 and Vacqueyras 2004.

Frederic sells most of his grape production to well-known vignerons. However in years that he believes to be worthy, he retains 25% of his grapes and makes fabulous wine. Additionally Domaine de la Jaufrette doesn’t sell their wines until they believe that they are ready to drink. Eight year old Cotes du Rhone is a very different drink than it was at three. Frederic gives VDLT the extraordinary opportunity to drink eight year old wine that has come directly from his vineyard to our cellars.

The Vacqueyras 2004 is a big fella. Very rustic, very earthy, and terrific with spaghetti Bolognese, BBQ, or any zaftic Italian food. Sal Chiappetta, our Italian food maven attests to this wine’s worthiness. To quote Raphael, “Both of these wines are scandalous bargains not just because they are so affordable but because they give such great pleasure”.

Satisfaction or full credit against future purchase.

These wines clearly demonstrate Raphael’s genius and pursuit of excellence.

VDLT’s Glorious Winter Brunch

6pk Macon-Chaintre 2009, Fabrice Larochette

Fabrice’s Macon-Chaintre is the secret ingredient in the Chief’s heralded chicken soup. It is also the greatest Chardonnay under $20 made on the planet Earth. Michael’s grandparents (Sam and Minnie) were 300 years late for the Mayflower and consequently they arrived at Ellis Island in 1914. The cuisine of the ethnics that came to Ellis Island were more zaftic than that of the gentile Plymouth Rock crowd. Minnie and Sam were both wonderful cooks – potato pancakes; noodle pudding; stuffed derma; flanken (boiled beef if you landed on Plymouth Rock); gefilte fish; brisket etc.

Every Sunday morning, the Chief goes on Skype to try to call Minnie to tell her about his terrific new chicken soup. Grandma boiled chicken, carrots, celery, and onions in water for three hours. The water became delicious Jewish penicillin, however the chicken tasted like cardboard as all flavor went into making the water into soup. Michael boils chicken, carrots, celery, and onions in 75% chicken stock and 25% Macon for JUST one hour and fifteen minutes. This makes high octane broth and very delicious chicken. The soup should be garnished with a nice beautiful matzo ball purchased at Second Ave Deli. (Very good but nothing like Minnie’s).

PAY ATTENTION!!! This is not a cute story or a typical food pairing suggestion. This is a dish that is always applauded vigorously and requires little effort to produce. A fabulous hearty winter brunch that you will serve with a glass of 2009 Macon-Chaintre which will undoubtedly become two or three.
